Home Genre tragedy Night Splitter: The Legend of the Swordmaster

Meet Arthur a normal high school boy.

"Get a grip, she`s way out of your league"

"IS NOT, ugh you`re supposed to be supporting me James not dragging me down".

That`s James his pessimistic best friend, they`ve been friends since childhood and I couldn`t imagine a world without his personal `bring me back to earth` buddy.

"I`m just telling you the truth man, Scarlett is WAY out of your league. She is the smartest and hottest girl in school I don`t know what you expect"

"A man should always strive for greatness!"

"You need to stop reading all those books," Said James with skepticism written all over his face. I knew I was shooting a long shot but I had to try.

"I`m for sure asking her out today" I said with a bit too much vigor. I wanted to ask her before the Gift ceremony, the Gift ceremony is where everything gets their power, or as they call it Gifts. I knew Scarlett would get incredible Gifts because she came from a noble family that is only lower in power than the Royal Family.

"Yeah, you`ve said that like ten times already just get it over with and move on" James was getting tired of Arthur saying he`d ask her out.

"What you don`t believe me?" I said while faking a sad look on my face.

  "No"

"Eish, how brutal of you, but I was serious i will ask her out today IF THAT`S THE LAST THING I DO!"

"Then how about while it`s still lunch time you go ahead and ask the most noble person this school has ever had out to be your girlfriend" Said James with no small amount of skepticism in his voice. I then suddenly jumped up to my feet.

  "Alright, I`m going!"

  "Goodluck"

"Don`t need it" I said with overflowing confidence. They were in their classroom until now so if I had to guess she would be outside or somewhere there since she loves sports. After walking around for about five minutes I saw her sitting with her friends. I was again reminded of how beautiful she was, with her long silky blonde hair, smooth alabaster skin, and a face that would put most models to shame. I almost stopped in my tracks to reconsider what I was doing. No, I had to do this and prove James wrong. So I walked up to Scarlett with my confidence booming and stopped before her. Scarlett looked up to him.

"Is something wrong? You look like you`re sweating quite a bit, have some practice?" Scarlett said in her angelic tone which almost made me tumble.

"Uh oh no I`m fine thanks I just had something to say to you" I said fumbling a bit over his words getting more nervous the longer this continued. "Will you please go out with me!" He almost screamed, Scarlett jumped a bit at that. I was getting more and more nervous the longer she waited to respond.

"No sorry I don`t want to go out with you, I barely know you! How could I go out with someone I barely know."

"OH YEAH, of course, uh eh goodbye now" I woefully walked away regretting asking her, he should`ve known this was going to happen but still felt disappointed at actually being rejected. Walking back to James in class felt like I just came back from failing midterms, it was awful.

"How`d it go?" James said knowing the answer already, I was the butt of every joke in school because of what happened.

"She rejected me" I said a bit absent-mindedly still being down in the dumps.

"What`s done is done at least now you can focus on the Gifts ceremony this weekend! I can`t wait, it`s just so exciting, isn`t it? We`ll finally be able to help fight against the other races. It gets me giddy thinking about it!" The one thing James was passionate about was magic and helping the kingdom fight, which was a bit of a surprise to me at first but I can kind of see it now.

"I guess you`re right about that, It sort of excites me as well. I can`t wait to throw fireballs!" I laughed a bit at that, I knew not everyone got a good Gift especially not middle-class people like me but a I could dream.

"Little Arthur and his big dreams."

"HEY! I`m not even that little anymore." I was 175 centimeters tall and James was 190.

  "If you say so"

"Anyway we have to get back to class soon break times are probably over soon"

"I guess you`re right, alright see you later Arthur"

  "You too, bye!"

After school I immediately went home to prepare for the Gift ceremony tomorrow it was the biggest day in any 16 year olds life! The day which dictates your future is a bit scary in my opinion. My parents were already at home since I got back a bit late, my father was a soldier because he got intermediate-tier magic and my mom`s just a housewife since she got the short end of the stick with beginner magic. After greeting them and eating I went to my room I knew I had to get up early tomorrow but I was just too excited. I decided to practice a bit with my sword, the one thing my parents hated me doing since there aren`t any Gifts that can help with physical abilities but I enjoyed using the sword. I was always better than anyone else with the sword as well so I felt proud of using it. After about an hour or two I finally got to bed. I hope I get someone worth while at the Gifts ceremony, I knew it could screw your life over if you got something useless, but all that worries were worries for tomorrow, today ill just sleep.
