Unfinished cover page for unfinished fanfic "Mama Mia: The Tearmoon Empress" yes, that is Mia unsuccessfully attempting to keep her mom from using a magic wand—nothing like this occurs in the official series and this is just how I imagine her mom might look. (the Empress`s dress design is a nod to (was sort of stolen from) "The Villaness Lives Twice" —a much darker very distant relative of Tearmoon Empire—with no sense of humor. (Mia`s pose came from a photo of a girl on monkey bars. Yeah the Empress`s hand is a little funky—will fix it if I ever finish the book). Oh, and the Empress`a tiara was inspired by Audrey Hepburn`s from Breakfast at Tiffanie`s!
Cover from competed short story—"Tearmoon Empire: Before Mia"
It`s Mia`s Mom and Dad here—I enjoyed writing the story and illustrating the cover—but folks didn`t seem that interested in either. I don`t know if both were just meh—or the appeal of Tearmoon story without Mia is too limited
So, I visited an Auguste Rodin exhibit, and I was *really* inspired. The pose is lifted from "The Thinker," which fits Mia so well! I usually tone down Mia`s outfits—less bows, less frills, and less puffy sleeves—not so much here—puffy sleeves and tons of bows (though her tiara is a little small this time). And the pose it pretty funky too—sure it`s iconic, but sitting like that is like playing a game of Twister! The right elbow is resting on the same leg that the left hand is grabbing—I actually had an 11-year-old pose for me—he hated the pose almost as much as he hated wearing the dress (just kidding about the dress). I just love the combination of the sweet and the absurd—it is just so Mia! (One of my favorites)
This was a pseudo-request—someone on a forum wished that this scene from Tearmoon Empire was illustrated and I gave it a shot—to prevent spoilers I won`t say who the characters are in the scene
