Chapter 15: Broken
By the time anyone truly registered what happened, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, the sadistic genius of the Seireitei, slumped to the bottom. Yumichika`s and Ikkaku`s faces widened in pure shock, mirroring the horror of this scene.
Zaraki was the only one still with the urge to fight. So he lunged at Silas with killing intent. "See if I care you took down a weak captain! But don`t run from me!"
Silas sheathed his weapon, attempting to surrender. Yet Zaraki wasn`t having it. He could still sense Silas`s will to fight, so he pressed on.
"Think I won`t attack just `cause my enemy`s unarmed?!" he yelled.
With each strike, Silas evaded, narrowly having his body chopped. His movements were a lot swifter and more elegant than before. Little had Zaraki known that Silas was using Tsuppane!
But it wasn`t going to last long. Once Zaraki`s spiritual pressure increases again, Tsuppane won`t be as effective. So Silas pressed on his ZanpakutM, ready for one final assault. "Bankai&" When Zaraki heard that, his face contorted to a devilish grin, excited to see the legendary Bankai that everyone was raging about.
Yet nothing happened.
There wasn`t a hum or a change in Silas`s spiritual pressure. Zaraki, annoyed, took one swing to make sure he wasn`t imagining things. When the hit connected from Silas`s shoulders down to his torso, the fight concluded. His opponent hadn`t even bothered to dodge.
Silas`s vision was blurry. He could barely keep his body composed, let alone stay in the air anymore. He had lost.
Zaraki, ashamed, rested his blade behind his shoulders. "That`s funny. I could have sworn I heard you say `Bankai`. Or was that a bluff to keep me from attacking?"
Silas hadn`t answered. He was in so much pain that he was ready to collapse at any moment. And that`s just what happened. His entire field of view slowly moved toward the ground as he fell from the sky. The Soul Reapers merely watched him until he crash-landed on the ground.
Next to him was Mayuri`s corpse. There was no possible way that particular captain could recover from those injuries. Silas made sure of it.
Seeing that at least one Soul Reaper had been erased from this world was enough to keep him content. But that didn`t mean things were over.
Before the fight began, their mission was to capture Silas, not kill him. Whether or not Zaraki would change his mind after what he did to Mayuri wouldn`t matter anyway. Silas no longer had the strength or spiritual pressure to move.Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
It`s not that he was at a disadvantage during their fight. Zaraki was also a capable fighter, meriting his title as a Kenpachi.
Unlike the time Ichigo fought him in the story, Zaraki tried to match his spiritual pressure, only to be defeated for being too late. This time around, Silas couldn`t explode his power like he normally did. Then there was Zaraki`s adaptation rate. It was much quicker in person as opposed to watching it on television.
He truly was worthy of his title. And if opponents like that were terrifying to face, Genryksai and Yhwach were on another level.
"Look, Kenny! He`s still alive!" Yachiru yelled, descending alongside Zaraki.
Her fellow Soul Reapers followed, a tad anxious about numerous things. Silas could tell by the looks on their faces that they were reluctant to see him. Zaraki no longer felt like continuing with the mission, having already secured a victory. That was exactly his character: once his opponent could no longer fight, he lost interest in them.
Yumichika hesitated to approach Silas after being severely teased by Yachiru. Once it was confirmed Silas was still alive, he was bound tightly, and his weapon was safely secured.
"Didn`t he have two ZanpakutMs?" Yumichika wondered.
"The things you notice!" Ikkaku laughed.
"No, serious. I was sure I saw an extra sword on him."
Zaraki took the time to question Silas about this supposed second weapon, but the latter was despondent. Silas could barely move, let alone speak. The group, therefore, ignored it, deciding to file a report after searching him.
Throughout the search, hardly any of them questioned his techniques or the reason they had been sent to capture him. Yachiru tried to lighten the mood, but he was so injured that she found him unappealing to even look at. Zaraki, being the remaining captain, did what he could: keep Silas from breaking his bind.
Around his arms and legs were metal chains. Not even Silas could break out of them with brute force. And for whatever reason, his face was covered in cloth. This made him unable to see.
The Soul Reapers conversed about Silas`s eye colour, and how it might be related to a Hollow`s. Zaraki was still uninterested. And since no one wanted to wait on Renji, they decided to head in his direction. Silas was holstered up on Zaraki`s shoulders, showing no intent on trying to escape.
He couldn`t sense his surroundings as he began to feel nauseous from the flying. The only thing on his mind was trying to rest, despite all the annoying laughter around.
Upon returning to the hotel, he heard the Soul Reapers conversing about Renji`s and Rukia`s whereabouts. Neither of the two were present, nor could their spiritual pressures be sensed. Just then, a black butterfly appeared in their midst to relay a message from the Seireitei.
Zaraki listened in close. Whoever he was communicating with, their conversation was about Silas being successfully detained. Ikakku became a tad upset after finding out Renji had forced Rukia back to the Soul Society. All Silas could think about was why he had to demand her.
The two weren`t necessarily on good terms, but the recent events that took place in the Soul Society proved they didn`t hate each other.
"That Renji must have had some strong feelings for the Kuchiki girl," Yumichika added.
Zaraki was only relieved that he didn`t have to deal with her capture. Their mission wasn`t just to apprehend Silas. It was also to bring Rukia back in case she was involved in the incident.
When Silas heard a Senkaimon open, he understood one more thing: they weren`t going after Uryk.
