Chapter 24: Unheard Cry

Silas`s hand was crushed by an invisible wall. `Dankk?` he thought to himself, seeing what it was. Rukia`s face was filled with surprise just as he backed away.

Appearing on the many rooftiles of the homes in the Kuchiki residence were several Soul Reapers. Most of them were captains of the thirteen court guard squads!

Silas stood amidst them, gradually turning his head to everyone that had appeared: Shunsui KyMraku, Soi Fon, Retsu Unohana, Zaraki, TMshirM Hitsugaya, JkshirM Ukitake, Sajin Komamura, and, to Silas`s surprise, Kaname TMsen and Gin Ichimaru.

"My, my, isn`t this a surprise?" Gin said with an impeccable smile across his face. "Who would have thought the person who took down Aizen could escape from the Muken?"

The revelation was more condescending than praise-worthy. Seeing those two, Kaname and Gin, only told Silas that they were pardoned and allowed to return to their captain duties after repenting.

"I`m glad we came in time," Retsu commented. "Things might have ended badly for you, Captain Kuchiki."

She was right. And based on her motion, she was the one to have cast that barrier spell. If it wasn`t for her, he would have grabbed Rukia and fled. More importantly, out of all the captains present, Genryksai was not here.

What was he to do against this many Soul Reapers? Perhaps use EnrakyMten? The moment that thought came to him, he saw EnrakyMten in his vision.

"I`ll only warn you this one time," it said with a sinister smile. "If you use my power again, you`ll die by tomorrow!"

The message was loud and clear, but he ignored it. Zangetsu still wasn`t responding. Meaning he couldn`t use his Bankai. His life was already in dire trouble if he didn`t use EnrakyMten.

"Ichigo, was it?" TMshirM asked. "I was skeptical at first, believing your sentence by Central 46 wasn`t right. But& but after seeing your actions here, we`ll have to take measures in our own hands."

"Own hands?" Silas repeated. "TMshirM, you... disappoint me." There was an ominous presence in Silas`s expression. So much so that the moon`s light reflecting off his face showed that he was lax, poised, and without any worry. "So many captains of the thirteen court guard squads gathered in one place? You`re only making my task easier."

None of the Soul Reapers understood what he was getting at. Sheathing Zangetsu, he closed his eyes, prepared to risk what he needed in order to survive.

"All of you lay your pathetic lives to serve under a corrupt system that only benefits the rich," he said, a crisp song gliding through the air as he unsheathed his second ZanpakutM.

They all watched as the glare from the moon reflected off its unhinged blade. Not even Shunsui knew what he was planning.Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.

  "Shatter&"

At that moment, a light shimmered across the entire area, blinding everyone present. By the time the light faded, not a single Soul Reaper saw Silas.

KyMka Suigetsu`s ultimate hypnosis was in full effect!

But before he could even think about running toward Rukia, some of the captains released their ZanpakutM. Shunsui was the first to react with his Katen KyMkotsu, a dual-wield ZanpakutM that could turn children`s games into battles, with the ZanpakutM itself setting the rules.

Anyone who steps within the boundaries of its spiritual pressure is forced to play by those rules, including Shunsui himself. And from what Silas remembered, if you win, you live, but if you lose, you die. Then there was JkshirM`s ZanpakutM, SMgyo no Kotowari. It`s ability allowed him to virtually absorb any attack and redirect it.

The problem wasn`t that each of these captains released their ZanpakutM. It was why they released them: to protect Rukia!

Silas could already sense a stagnant amount of spiritual pressure surrounding her. Perhaps he could blow by weapons like Gin`s or Sajin`s, but JkshirM`s and Shunsui`s were a different matter. Rukia was surrounded by an impenetrable defense that even KyMka Suigetsu was too late to influence. And the reason for that was because Silas didn`t think they would use their abilities to protect the thing he was truly after: Rukia.

"I`ll say this once," his voice echoed in everyone`s ears. They each looked around, in the sky and underground, trying to find his whereabouts. "Regardless of how many of you there are—anyone who opposes me—I won`t hesitate to slit their throats and cast their bodies to the depths of the ocean."

Zaraki laughed manically, accepting the challenge. Some, like TMshirM, found the threat more insidious than anything. But the person truly affected by those words was Rukia. Byakuya watched as she fell to her knees, unsure of what to do.

"Why don`t you quit hiding?" Zaraki said with an eager tone. He seemed to be the only one ready to tear Silas apart.

"Calm down, Captain Kenpachi," Shunsui recommended. "That light we all saw might have been more than meets the eye."

Leave it to a well-balanced character to understand the situation. Silas was heavily outnumbered. There was only so much he could do. But he couldn`t leave empty-handed. The Seireitei would have to pay for their obstruction.

As the captains were all in disarray, he dashed forward. The air rippled with an unseen force—a predator stalking its prey. Sajin`s instincts screamed, but he couldn`t pinpoint the danger.

  Then it was upon him.

A flash of silver, too fast for eyes to track. It carved a burning line across Sajin`s arm, drawing a scream from the captain. All the others were stunned to see the sudden attack go through despite their watchful eyes. Sajin gripped his arm, roaring, "My arm`s been cut off!"

The others were now confused, for Sajin`s arm had only been wounded. When Silas saw Retsu approaching him, he formed an illusion to make her run in the opposite direction. All the others turned their heads to see her healing the air, of which they, too, were unaware of the fact that nothing was there.

This was Silas`s moment. With a flicker, he unleashed another strike on Sajin. This one gashed the captain`s thigh, sending him crashing to one knee. His fur sizzled, the wound oozing pools of blood around the edges.

Sajin screamed more, but no one could hear him. His voice went unheard as he watched the others focus their attention elsewhere. This left him beyond shocked, seeing that his fellow captains were ignoring his pain.

No one could help. They were all blinded by his presence.

Silas, cloaked in the hypnosis, pressed on. Each slash found its mark, carving a tapestry of agony across Sajin`s body and tearing away his armour. When the wolf could no longer take it, he gripped his sword.

  "Bankai!"

Yet nothing happened. His confusion turned into utter dread. His blood then sprayed on the dirt as a deep gash in his throat formed.

Sajin`s vision blurred. How could he fight what he couldn`t even perceive?

With a final, ragged roar, the captain collapsed, his colossal body a ruin etched with unseen cruelty. Sajin Komamura had died.
