Chapter 6: Broken Innocence
Orihime Inoue. An anomaly, a puzzle piece that never quite fit in the world of Bleach. Her powers defied any known framework. Even now, Silas couldn`t fathom how she was able to see him.
The two stared at one another, a flash of wonder in her gaze. With one slow blink, she rubbed her eyes.
"Ichigo& Is that you?"
Each second that passed triggered memories of who Orihime was. Her relentless optimism, that saccharine kindness coating her determination—he didn`t trust it. Ichigo did. But Silas was not Ichigo.
There was power to be claimed here, not hearts to entertain. An exhausted smile graced her face before she gasped.
"Ichigo? Wh& Why didn`t you warn me you were coming?" She trailed off as he gradually approached her. "Something feels... different about you."
Silas could barely hold back a scoff. Just from her seeing him confirmed his initial assessment: eliminate all risks. No matter her potential, his own safety always came first.
"I..." she trailed off again, biting her lip. Annoyance rose within him. Was she scared? Feigning weakness—an underhanded trick so typical of the characters in this world? "Ichigo, are you... Are you alright?"
Confusion crossed her face before it settled into something akin to resignation. "You`re in..." Her voice barely rose above a whisper, laced with an odd weariness Silas hadn`t expected. "...that form again."
How long had she known about him being a Soul Reaper?! Now he couldn`t tell what to do with her.
"Orihime, what do you mean by that?"
She hadn`t answered, her eyes looking down as if she had said something wrong. Silas`s tone was resolute, devoid of any sincerity. A pang of anger boiled within him due to her shyness.
"Don`t play dumb now," he sneered.
Orihime froze, something hardening in her eyes. Not terror, but something far more dangerous—resolve to change the person in front of her. "Ichigo, I never got the courage to tell you this," she murmured, her voice shaking. "It might be something you won`t understand, but... You were always kind to me. Tatsuki and Chad told me how you fought for them and how you protected the people around you."
She lifted up her head, able to pull off a warm smile. "That`s something I`ve always wanted to do, but I was always too shy. I thought maybe one day I could ask you to show me how you do it. Ichigo& I guess I just really wanted you to like me. Pretty selfish, huh?"
Orihime, who had dared to speak his fake name one too many times, also dared to voice her concerns, causing something inside Silas to finally snap. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"Alright," he calmly said. "Only because it will bother me if I don`t... I am not Ichigo Kurosaki."
Her eyes held a mix of uncertainty. "My path has nothing to do with your fantasies. This accursed world is tainted with things acting as if they`re alive. And do you know why?"
Orihime clinched her bed sheets, fear finally twisting her expression. Good. Let her see the real threat lurking within Ichigo`s body. His voice lowered to a whisper as he took a purposeful step towards her. "It`s to take advantage of me&"
Silas truly believed he was the only person with a genuine soul in this world, the only person alive. And the only way to escape was to obtain power. Enough to ensure his survival. Whether it was a ZanpakutM, a Quincy, or a Soul Reaper, he needed enough power to overwhelm the opposition—even if it meant playing the role of a villain.
It didn`t matter that Zangetsu or EnrakyMten were listening to their conversation. They were spirits already subjugated by him, willing to see the world he would create. The only one present in this scene that mattered to Silas was her.
Orihime`s fear spiked. He almost didn`t bother drawing his ZanpakutM. But the moment it was unsheathed, she flinched, her eyes widening at the flicker of his spirit pressure that slammed into her body. A harsh sob escaped her lips as she crumpled. Her bones continuously cracked as she lay there, unable to move.
It wouldn`t matter. It shouldn`t matter. Not for long.
"Ichigo&! Please&!"
"My name is Silas Wren."
A final gasp, and Orihime Inoue—the anomaly, the kind but determined character he never bothered to care for—was stabbed through the chest.
Blood trickled down Zangetsu as he removed the blade. He swiped the blood from her body before sheathing his sword. This act would surely have its repercussions in the long run, but Silas would try and prepare for them. If he had truly done something wrong, then he would bear the consequences.
Some time was spent discarding the body. It wasn`t much trouble, but making an alibi was. Signs were left indicating that she had gone on a trip. This was done by packing some of her clothes and bathroom essentials before destroying the suitcase.
A late-night ticket was even booked under her name using what little funds she had. All to ensure that she wouldn`t be reported as missing for some time. Cleaning up the blood and burning what he could, he departed the now-empty abode of a fallen character.
There was something that troubled Silas as he soared in the air. Before Orihime saw him, he had already confirmed she didn`t have any spiritual powers.
In the story, it was written that her powers were influenced by Ichigo and her feelings for him. And because of her desires to protect those close to her, six fairies manifested from her hairpin. Since it was confirmed she didn`t have a Fullbring, many believed her powers were a wish granted to her by the HMgyoku.
But even if that were the case, he still should have felt something lingering in her Soul. There was only one explanation he could think of: the HMgyoku`s abilities far exceeded his own comprehension.
To Silas, every action he took was an act of survival. In his logic, kindness and trust were luxuries he couldn`t afford. He didn`t want to slay her. Yet Orihime`s ability to sense him despite his disguise represented a potential threat, an unpredictable variable that could jeopardize his goals.
Her unwavering faith in the real Ichigo became a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities he sought to eradicate. Thus, her elimination was seen as a necessary preemptive strike to minimize further risks.
In Silas`s mind, empathy served no purpose here. Orihime`s optimism became a liability, a blind spot he couldn`t risk exploiting. Ultimately, her very existence served as more of a reason to acquire the HMgyoku. As such, he didn`t just leave empty-handed; he took her hairpins!
