After a series of complicated subway line transfers, Isaac stumbles into the Underside, a fantastical parallel world inhabited by a hodgepodge of overpowered beings. Four years later, this system is (roughly) in place, and Isaac is the unfortunate soul tasked with keeping it updated. There's now a Discord server if anyone wants to chat and hang out! This story starts out as a chill, slow burn comedic slice-of-life that follows Isaac's strange adventures in the Underside. Based on my work on Saga of the Jewels, I have been hired by an indie game developer to write the novel for their 'novel + turn-based battles' game on Steam. Of course, a 'novel + turn based battles' is a terrible idea for a game, which is why no other games like this exist, but hey, the developer is paying me. And if something's worth doing at all, it's worth doing as well as possible, so I am going to give this project my very best shot and try to make it as good as it can be. So if you read this, please give me feedback on the story to help me make it as good as it can be! Please note, for this story I have been given a pre-existent set of characters, character back-story sketches and a rough plot to work with. I also have to insert random battles into the narrative, have set characters appear in a certain order, and have the party fight fixed bosses in a certain order, all at fixed points! Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story.
