Chapter 45 - The Demon Lord

The demons fought with magic spells and swordsmanship alike

but he tore through their magic and their swords with every strike

his army slowly gained morale to join him in the fight

drawn toward the hero`s passion burning strong and bright

The sound of swords and battle cries consumed the battlefield

courage burned in every warrior behind a shield

a thousand demons fought the hero, but he killed them all

but when he stopped to look around, the hero heard a call

"Humans from the south who come to make war with my kin

go back to your homes in peace, or understand your sin

I warned you that the consequences of this petty war

shall extend beyond the simple things you`re fighting for"

The ultimatum of the demon lord was heard by all

many were confused but saw the hero standing tall

the demon lord descended with a fearsome lightning crash

everyone who saw was nearly blinded by the flash

Those nearby were shaken by the overwhelming force

a feeling of despair had spread, with him its only source

a swarm of feelings filled even the hero`s noble heart

but if there was a battle to be had, then he`d take part

The air around the demon lord was heavy and intense

to most upon the battlefield his power made no sense

many thought he seemed more like a dragon than a king

every step he took caused more to question everything

But one man knew the power of a dragon very wellA case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

one who`d overcome the legendary flames of hell

the demon lord had glowing eyes and wings upon his back

but such a monster couldn`t match the dragon`s fierce attack

The hero`s focus gathered on the challenge that he faced

while the battle waged his hesitation was erased

it was time to put into effect what he had learned

the skill he trained against the countless enemies he`d burned

His army would be lost if he let all his fire run wild

he couldn`t lose control in anger like a stubborn child

with the concentration he`d learned in his years at war

he`d create a weapon strong enough to end the war

He summoned all the fire he had into a single blade

the demon lord looked on in awe at what the hero made

it glowed so brightly one could not discern its form or length

but it was clear as day that it possessed unrivalled strength

Like the hero, he had magic flowing through his veins

more power than he`d seen on any of his long campaigns

he used a sword and shield of magic, summoned with a spell

It almost seemed like fairies` magic, but he couldn`t tell

Before the demon lord could raise his voice, he raised his shield

understanding that the hero`s will was surely steeled

the duel began and through the night the war continued on

attacks like crashing thunder filled the battlefield til dawn

The sunrise met a bloody field where still the armies fought

but demons weren`t the weaklings that the hero once had thought

the demon lord was powerful beyond his wildest dreams

both their skills at combat had been pushed to their extremes

He launched a fierce assault but failed to land a single hit

but if he couldn`t best him with his sword, he had his wit

even when he faced the dragon, luck was on his side

his enemies would taste defeat no matter what they tried

"Demon lord, have you not heard, I`m stronger than you know

I faced the mighty dragon in these hills just weeks ago

if I could slay a dragon, how could I be slain by you

if you don`t surrender, I will gladly kill you too"

The hero`s words were powerful and filled his knights with pride

trusting in the dragon slayer they fought alongside

but as they fought, the demon lord just shook his head and stared

unaffected by the words the hero had prepared

"I do not understand the path which brought you to this place

I pity you for all the pain you wear upon your face

if your fate has brought you here to stand against my own

then together we must reap whatever fate has sown"

The hero had expected demons not to call his bluff

but if his knights believed in him, then that would be enough

and so without another thought for plans or strategy

he gave his all to make the fight go down in history
