Book 2, Chapter 77-78: Show Me // Your Story

  Rorri

Rorri saw the weapon coming. The heartbeat never stopped. Before he realized what he was doing, he summoned the knife to his hand. He gasped as it seared his palm and tied a knot in his stomach. Pak`s expression was utterly blank - he clearly wasn`t all there. The colors in his head turned to pale blue mist and hovered above him, leaving an empty shell. Rorri wasn`t even angry. He was so incredibly sad.

"Please restrain him," he whispered to the Forest. The Forest did as he asked. Branches and vines snaked towards the boy and wrapped around his wrists, his ankles, his abdomen, and his neck. He struggled against it, but Belethlian was stronger. Rorri dropped the weapon to the ground and closed the distance between them.

"Don`t t-touch me!" Pak shouted, spitting a cloud of yellow. Normally, Rorri would listen. Normally he`d back away. But this was different. He had to know.

Heat crept from the pit of his brain to the base of his neck. He pressed his thumb in the groove at the top of Pak`s nose and stared deeply into his eyes. Rorri`s Will wept from his ears, a desperate plea to his wayward son:

  S H O W M E Y O U R S T O R Y

  Pak

He crawls through my eyes, into my head&

  (What& what`s happening?)

  Please don`t fight it&

He watches me bleed on my mother`s fluffy white rug. He watches Grandmother beat me. He watches her send me away to school, and he watches my bullies` cruel games. He watches Lilia burn my face. He watches me stab her. He watches Kano enter my life, and he watches me run away. He watches the mob crush me into a pulp outside of the eastern gate. He watches me murder my Grandmother. He watches me betray Iridan to the Du閚. He watches me cause the cave-in, and he watches me kill myself. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. (How did you&)

I`ll tell you everything. I promise.

For every second of my life, he`s there, a specter behind my eyes& But it isn`t fair. He gets to see everything, and I have to relive my own personal hell. I don`t want to see any of this. I don`t want him to see any of this.

  Remember the good things, too&

  (Like what&?)

Like when you summoned Cabbage for the first time.

Or when you talked to Baby, the dog. You saved her life. I`m sure of it.

And when you went to the algae-filled pond, even if you missed what he meant to tell you then... the love was always there. I see it clear as day.

It brought you back from the dead, didn`t it?

  Oh, god&

I feel him crying, filling up my skull with tears.

I`m so sorry, my sweet boy. I`m so sorry I was never there.

You didn`t deserve any of the horrible things they did.

  You`re wonderful. You`re perfect.

You have such a good heart, and you`re so smart, just like your mother.

  Look how far you`ve come...

I`m so proud of you, son.

  I`m here now. You`re safe.

  It`s okay...
